Plant Bio

Philodendron verrucosum Incensi

Philodendron verrucosum is a stunning species native to areas of Central and South America loved for its big leaves and tropical look. We’ve trialed a few selections of Philodendron verrucosum and have come to love Incensi for its coloration and because it’s more compact than others we’ve tested.

Like most Philodendrons, Incensi prefers bright light inside. It’ll be happiest if you have a spot within about 3 feet of a good-sized (and unobstructed) east- or west-facing window. It also grows well under artificial light if you don’t have the right window for it.

Watering for your P. verrucosum Incensi is a breeze thanks to the Wick & Grow self-watering system we offer it in. Just replenish the reservoir as needed, being careful to never overfill past the top of the window at the base of the pot. This system helps prevent overwatering, a common issue for many plant parents. While Philodendrons like this have a reputation for needing a chunky, well-draining soil, we’ve found our mix of coconut coir and shredded wood fibers provides ample aeration in the self-watering system when used properly.

Being native to tropical rainforests, it grows quite well in average to slightly above-average temperatures. Try to keep it above about 65F (18C). If you keep it adequately watered, it can handle average relative humidity levels (40 to 60 percent). But it loves above-average relative humidity, especially if its soil may get a little too dry from time to time.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
